GRAIN MOLD DISEASE:
Causal Organism= Botrytis cineria
Symptoms=
· Lack of pod setting in first indication of the grain mold disease attack.
· May be attacked at any growth stage.
· First appear as a soft rot at the base of stem in the collar region.
· Affected tissue become covered with a fluffy grain mold initially.
· Affected plants wither and die.
· Small black sclerotia may from on the surface of affected tissue when plant dies.
· Seedling infection can cause damping off and considerable thinning of a crop.
Favourable condition=
· Temperature= 15-25 degree
· Relative humidity= >95%
Disease cycle of Grain Mold disease=
Perennation=
· Infected seed as a saprophyte on decaying plant debris and as soil-borne sclerotia.
Primary infection=
· New area by sowing infected seed.
Secondary infection=
· Through air spread rapidly.
Management=
Cultural method
· Hygiene is very important especially under grass.
· Maintain proper moisture in the field.
· Avoid water logging condition.
· Use proper deranged application in the field.
· Proper sanitation application applies in the field. E.g.: soil solarization.
· Proper spacing maintain row to row and plant to plant.
· Remove infarcted part of the plant.
· Apply good weed management practices.
· Apply good irrigation application in the filed area.
Chemical method
· No fungicides are approved for use against grey mold by gardeners.
